About Leo

Going back to school took on new meaning in 2014 when Leo Sheridan was elected to the San Leandro School Board. A graduate of San Leandro High School, who attended James Monroe Elementary and John Muir Jr. High, Trustee Sheridan is Chair of both the Facilities/Technology Committee and the DATE (Drug Alcohol Tobacco Education) Committee.

Leo’s involvement in our schools began in 2012 when his daughter entered kindergarten at James Monroe Elementary. He quickly learned that a lot had changed since he was a student there. Upset that the library wasn’t open to students—Leo soon found out that libraries were closed at elementary schools across the district. He set out to re-open our school libraries.

With funding from the J1 facilities bond all San Leandro elementary and middle school libraries are scheduled for re-opening this year. Our newly renovated school libraries have been transformed into vibrant inspiring spaces for students with innovation hubs that include 3D printers, E-readers and maker spaces.

Proud of re-opening libraries with innovation hubs for students throughout the school district, Leo’s accomplishments aren’t limited to our libraries. He has worked hard to ensure school sites are safe, and students are well rounded and prepared for success, while retaining and attracting quality teachers.

As Vice-President, and General Manager of a locally owned San Leandro Company Leo’s leadership skills, business and fiscal experience are valuable assets to the board. His service as Dad’s Club President, School Site Council Chair, and parent advisor to the Local Control and Accountability Plan, as well as being a parent of a current student bring first-hand knowledge of the day-to-day functioning of our schools bring a much needed perspective when making critical decisions that affect our children.

Leo is currently earning a Masters in Governance. He and his  wife, Michelle live with their daughter Kearsten. In their free  time they run, and coach the San Leandro Girls Softball  League. A youth non-profit sports league they founded in 2016.
